Benjamin Morgan is a dynamic and creative public relations professional with expertise in crisis communications, media relations, and social media. He holds a Masters Degree in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University where he is now associate faculty in the faculties of Communication and Culture and Humanitarian Studies. Benjamin played a key communications role with The City of Calgary during the 2013 flood and as a member of Canada Task Force 2 during the 2016 Municipal Region of Wood Buffalo Wildfires.
During his Paramedic career, he served as the designated spokesperson for the City of Calgary Emergency Medical Services. Here he had daily interactions with local and national media. In a single calendar year, he would publish over 125 media releases and appear in over 150 media stories. When not busy actively engaging with the media, he wrote communication plans, created public education programs, and coordinated community events.
While he was in this role, Benjamin developed a comprehensive media relations training program which was attended by emergency response professionals from across the province. Benjamin intuitively created lasting relationships with members of local media outlets. These relationships, and the success of his training program would become the foundation for the creation of Both Sides Media.
“Working with the media can be a dynamic and fun experience. If you understand how they work and what they need, it is easy to meet half way ensuring that your key messages are delivered, and heard”, says Benjamin.
Benjamin sits on the advisory boards of Bow Valley College Public Relations and Strut Creative and has been involved in organizations such as the Toast Masters Speakers Guild, the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, the Calgary Public Relations Society, and the International Association of Business Communicators.
